Annual Family Pictures

Just before we left for Disney, we had our annual family pictures made.  I like taking them at this time of year, not only because the weather is usually so pretty in the Fall, but it's right between the girls' birthdays.  This year, we used Allison Mauer Photography.  She was so easy to work with!  We met at Kennesaw National Park to take a lot of pictures, and then we drove a few minutes over to Kennesaw Avenue to be in front of a really cool stone wall.  This was a wonderful experience, and we were so pleased with how great the pictures turned out.  Since we didn't make Christmas cards this year (which I'm really regretting right now!), I thought I would just post a lot of the pictures on the blog.  Enjoy!

ACCA Christmas Program

Lily was so excited about her school's Christmas program.  She asked me probably two dozen times in the few days beforehand if I would be there.  She just couldn't wait to perform; this is the same child who not too long ago dreaded performing in front of people!  She wanted to keep her part of the show a surprise, so I had very little idea of what she was going to do.

Just before we left, she practiced her curtsy.  Such a cutie!

The program started with the whole school singing together which was neat.  Then, Lily's class and the other Kindergarten class stayed on stage while everyone else sat down.  They performed three songs and Callie recited part of Luke 2 which was so sweet.  Lily had mentioned they were playing instruments which was exciting for them; what 5 or 6 year old doesn't love to make music?  Here is a link to the classes playing "It's Christmastime."  Lily is in the front row, in the middle.

After they finished these few songs, most of the kids sat down though Lily, Emory, Avery, Kelsey and Nara stayed on stage, and three first grade boys joined them.  They handed out their boomwhackers.  Now, Lily had mentioned to me she was playing a boomwhacker.  Honestly I thought this was a cutesy-Kindergarten name for a drum.  Nope.  It's a real instrument!  To top it off, Lily's was pink which thrilled her.  They played "Joy to the World," and it was absolutely adorable!  You can see the link to it here.  We were so proud of Lily and her friends for this!

After they played the boomwhackers, Lily and her friends sat down while the other students performed.  Everyone did a great job.  It was such a wonderful evening.  I feel like there is true joy at ACCA, and you could really feel it among everyone this evening.  We are so glad to be a part of this incredible school!

Chattanooga Visit

We headed up to Chattanooga for a weekend getaway recently.  On Friday afternoon, we left town to catch the "North Pole Express."  Last year the girls and I rode this while Ryan was in Chicago.  We really enjoyed it and looked forward to riding it again this year.  While they seemed to like it, I have to say that I was disappointed.  It didn't seem nearly as well run as last year; I doubt we will return to this or recommend it to anyone again.

They had a couple of light features to enjoy at the station.
The girls liked the gingerbread cookies that the "elves" hand out while on board.
Mia kept a close eye on what was going on outside train as we pulled into the North Pole.
After picking him up from the station (no Mrs. Claus this year), Santa comes around to each family for pictures and to find out what the kids would like.  Both girls said the same thing as when they saw Santa at Lenox: Rainbow Dash for Lily and a Thing-A-Ma-Jigger for Mia.
After our train ride was over, we headed over to the Residence Inn to spend the night.  On Saturday morning, we checked out and headed over to the Children's Museum.  The girls loved it!
The entrance was decorated so cute.
The girls had a lot of fun playing with the water features which was the first exhibit.  They put on raincoats, rolled up their sleeves and had a blast.
They loved these little windows where you could feel the water coming down but you stayed dry.
After playing in the water and on the playground above the water, we headed over into "Creation Station" where the girls made ornaments, made stop animation and enjoyed other fun little areas like that.
Right now the upstairs exhibit is all about a "Winter Wonderland."  The girls went through a snow maze, watched how an igloo is made and had fun "ice skating" in their socks.
We climbed to the top of the tower to look out over downtown which was neat.  Then we headed back down where they had fun playing doctor.  Mia could have stayed in this part for hours!
Soon, our friends joined us at the museum.  Michael, Allison, Kaitlyn and Jason Sepulveda moved to Chattanooga last year, and we were so glad to catch up with them.  Lily quickly latched on to Kaitlyn while Jason and Mia had fun together.  We stayed at the museum for awhile together because there were more fun exhibits to explore.  They loved the area where you could build a little coaster for balls to roll around on.  We also discovered a place where you used a little container to send messages across the ceiling to the other side of the room to a friend; it's a lot like a bank drive-through window.  The girls stood on one side and sent messages to Jason on the other side.  They loved picking out a question and then waiting anxiously for his reply.
After the museum, we all went to lunch together at Urban Stack which was awesomely good.  Their custom made burgers were out of this world delicious, and then the sides (gouda cream corn and sweet potato fries to name a couple) were so yummy.  This was a great choice that I would gladly visit again!  When lunch was over, we headed to the Sepulvedas house on Signal Mountain but stopped at a lookout point first.  Looking over the Tennessee River Valley was simply beautiful.
A couple of hours later, our friend Emily Lovingood Graffius and her family came over too.  We enjoyed dinner together and letting the kids play while the adults chatted and caught up.  It was a great time.  We spent the night at the Sepulvedas (Lily was thrilled that Kaitlyn invited her to sleep in her room!) and then headed home on Sunday morning.  While we won't do the train ride again, we certainly hope to go back to Chattanooga and have fun with our friends again!

The Pink Pig and Santa!

One of my favorite Christmastime traditions is a visit to Lenox Square each year to ride The Pink Pig and meet Santa Claus.  The girls enjoy this a lot too, and look forward to it for a couple of weeks before we start our Christmas countdown.  As we walked inside the tent, the girls met and had a picture made with Priscilla, the pink pig.  It is a cute picture, but I haven't uploaded it yet.  We like to go early in the month and right after school so the line isn't as long.  This time, we walked right up and got on immediately.  Woo-who!
The girls couldn't wait to board.
Ready to ride!  We let the girls ride by themselves this year which made them feel very big.
After riding, we headed in to meet Santa.  Again, we walked right up to meet him.  Both girls happily climbed into his lap and started smiling for pictures.
After the pictures, they talked to Santa for a minute.  Lily told him she wants a Rainbow Dash (My Little Pony) who walks and you can feed; it's identical to the one she already has except it's a different pony.  Mia told him she would like "a thing-a-ma-jigger like the Cat in the Hat drives that is big enough for Lily and me to sit in and drive."  Hmmm...not sure that's going to happen.

After meeting Santa, we treated the girls to "the chocolate shop."  I couldn't resist going through Godiva and getting a couple of pieces!  I love these memories!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Lily had her Thanksgiving feast at school on Tuesday.  They were allowed to come dressed as a Pilgrim or an Indian.  Thankfully, Liz used her teaching experience to make an Indian outfit for Lily which made her super excited.  Of course, Mia wanted in on the action too.
On Thanksgiving day, we went to Sid and Elaine's house to celebrate with a lot of my dad's family.  We are all glad that Meme was feeling well enough to come!
 Lily adores her Granna!
 Mia loves her too!
Mom and Dad with their five grandchildren.
On Friday, we kept with our tradition of putting up Christmas decorations.  The girls decorated their tree with ornaments they have made or picked as souvenirs.
We put up our nativity scenes.  The girls' had fun putting their Little People one up in the living room.  Ryan and I put ours up in the dining room.  Mine is the one on the left; Meme brought it back from her visit to the Holy Land in the early 90's.  Ryan's was a gift from his grandmother, Grandmama; we both adored Grandmama (Mia is named after her), so bringing this out each year makes us smile as we think about her.
The girls like putting up holiday stickers.

We let the girls help us decorate our family tree this year.  I have to say it was nerve-wracking for us!  A lot of our ornaments are breakable and irreplaceable, and the girls were so excited, they weren't exactly careful with them.  Luckily, all the ornaments made it through.  I love putting up the ornaments because we have a great time reminiscing over the trips taken and the memories that came from it.  Such a fun time.
Bring on the Christmas season!

Happy Birthday Mia!

Last Sunday was Mia's 4th birthday.  I can't believe it!  This sweet girl adds so much joy and happiness to our lives.  She makes us laugh like no one else can.  I love talking with her as she explains how the world works in her mind; the expressions she makes are priceless!  She is so smart, funny, sweet and caring.  She lights up our world.

On Saturday evening, we had dinner at Figo with my parents.  Afterwards, we came back to our house for ice cream and to let Mia open her presents.  Mom and Dad wisely selected pirate gifts for Mia; the girl loves her pirates!  One of their gifts was a book about how to be a pirate; Mia really wants to learn!  She was very excited about this Jake light-up sword.
She loves her talking Jake spyglass.
On Sunday evening (her actual birthday), we had a small party with our friends, the Hendersons and the Rohans (though Julia, Claudia and Evelyn stayed home sick).  Mia loves The Grinch, so that was the theme we went with.  Her evite was titled "Little Mia Lou Who Turns Two More Than Two."  The message said "Every Who down in Whoville like birthdays a lot, but the Grinch, who lives just north of Whoville, did NOT...Please join us in celebrating and saving Mia's 4th birthday from...the Grinch who steals birthdays!!!"  We hung red and green snowflakes around the house to decorate, and Mia was happy to impersonate the Grinch in her new shirt.
Our friends arrived, and we snacked on red and green M&M's and chips with guacamole for appetizers.  For dinner, Ryan grilled roast beast (pork tenderloin for the adults and hot dogs for the kids).  We also had Who Pudding (vanilla pudding), Cindy Lou Who red Jello, Max's Green Beans and the Mayor's Apple Cranberry Casserole.  To drink, I made Grinch juice (Sprite and Lime Sherbet).  We let the kids have a picnic dinner on Mount Crumpet while the cartoon version of The Grinch Who Stole Christmas played.  They all seemed to enjoy it.
For dessert, we had Grinch cupcakes.
Our Grinch was as happy as could be!
After dessert, Mia opened her gifts.  She was very excited to receive her stuffed Grinch and Max dolls from us!
We let the kids release the balloons before they headed home for the evening.  What a fun celebration with good friends!
On Monday, Ryan took Mia to the doctor for her well-visit check-up.  At least, we thought it was a well-visit.  Turns out, she still has her ear infection.  We realized we hadn't finished giving her the amoxicillan since we had let Lily share it with her on the cruise; whoops.  We have started a new round that we'll follow through with.  They measured her at 3 feet, 3.75 inches (51%), weighed her at 39 pounds (78%), took her blood pressure at 100/70 and said her vision passed.  The doctor also asked her to draw a picture of herself.  She said Mia did a great job because she not only drew a person smiling with arms and legs, but she also put clothes on her; apparently, not all 4 year olds do this.  I imagine Mia has colored with Lily so much though that she knows what to do!  According to the doctor, our precious Mia is doing great!

Happy birthday sweet Mia!

A Few Extra Pictures

Ryan scanned in the professional pictures that we got while on the trip.  We also purchased the Photopass Plus package which gives us all 150+ images taken at the Disney parks plus their stock photos, but we haven't gone through to edit or select those yet.  I put the cruise pictures in their blog entries, but here are a few extra.

On our way into Islands of Adventure.
Our princesses after Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique.
Before breakfast at Ohana with our lays on.
The four of us with Cinderella.
Fun times!
