Happy 17th Birthday Lily!

Happy 17th birthday to Lily!

Lily's birthday fell just two days after we returned to London, so we really didn't have a big celebration for her. We always let the birthday honoree get to pick dinner. Lily wanted me to make taco bake and have her friend Lauren over. We then picked up some Chick-fil-a desserts, and we all watched the season finale of Only Murders in the Building together (and find out a Season 4 is coming!). It was a really fun evening together celebrating our sweet Lily.

I always like to ask about favorites to see how things have changed over the years. Here is a list of some of Lily's current favorite items:
- Color: Pink
- Movie: Little Women
- TV Show: Only Murders in the Building
- Book: Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo
- Drink: Dr. Pepper
- Food: Chicken Biscuit
- Friend: Lauren Martin
- Bible Verse: 1 Timothy 4:12
- School Subject: Spanish
- Activity: Volleyball
- Place to Go: Hawaii (always a tough one to answer)
- Game to Play: Hues & Cues
- Restaurant: Chick-fil-a
- Animal: Otter
- Memory from the last year: Going to Hawaii
- Most Thankful For: My family and Decker
- Goal this year: Get all A's and pass her AP exams

Ryan and I are so incredibly proud of what a fantastic young woman Lily is. She has such a great sense of humor; her wit is outstanding. She's incredibly smart, and she works hard in her classes; you can see the gears always turning in her head. She's a loyal friend which is such an admirable trait. We can see that she is diligent, just, and trustworthy. I love that she's always reading an interesting book, and it's been great to see her grow in her volleyball skills this year. Really, she's just a fun person to hang out with; we always enjoy our time with her.

We pray that Lily grows closer to the Lord in this next year and continues to become the woman He has designed her to be. We know it's an amazing one!

London Part 4

Our last couple of days in London were wonderful. Saturday morning was a new experience for all of us again which was fun. We had a tour of the Palace of Westminster! This is where the seat of British politics takes place, and it was super cool to see. It was fun walking in past the gate; we had a view of Big Ben that's not available to everyone.

The huge entryway hall is unbelievable. It was built almost 1,000 years ago in 1097. Think about how much history has happened since this has been standing. Woah.

The tour was incredible. However, they won't let you take any pictures outside of the Great Hall. I understand why, but I still wish we could. Our tour took us through some pretty incredible places. we saw the Norman Porch, Robing Room, Royal Gallery, Central Lobby, House of Lords, and the House of Commons. Our guide was quite knowledgeable, and we learned all sorts of interesting historical facts while here. I'm so glad we did this.

When the tour was over, we started heading towards Covenant Garden for an afternoon show. We knew we needed some lunch, and thought we'd just stop along the way. Well, we stumbled upon The Admiralty in Trafalgar's Square which was quite welcoming of Atlanta Falcons fans in front of Sunday's game. We knew we had to eat lunch here!

We all had thoroughly enjoyed some pretty British foods for lunch. Ryan and Lily shared a charcuterie tray filled with British cheeses and meats. Mia enjoyed another fish and chips plate. I loved my chicken, bacon, and leek pie with mashed potatoes, and walnut salad. This was such a delicious and fun lunch spot!
After lunch we made our way to His Majesty's Theater for a matinee performance of The Phantom of the Opera. We all love this one. We saw last year in New York before it closed; we knew we wanted the girls to see it in London too. There is something about when that chandelier rises and the organ starts playing...it's so good!

When the show was over we found another little Pizza Express (seriously, it's really good Roman pizza!) and ate a small dinner there. We made time to stop in Covenant Garden at Knoops for hot chocolate and Mooboo for bubble tea as a treat too. From there we walked over to Theater Royal Drury Lane to enjoy Frozen. Ryan absolutely adores the musical theater actress Samantha Barks. She's incredible! When we booked this trip in June, we excitedly booked tickets to Frozen because she's been playing Elsa. It was only a few weeks later that Samantha posted on Insta how excited she was that her cast mates threw her a baby shower. Yep, she's currently on maternity leave and not in the show. Oh well. It's still such a well done show, and our stall seats were really good. It would have been amazing to see Samantha here, but this was still a very fun performance to watch.

It was another late night before we made it back to the hotel. We slept in a little bit on Sunday, and then we enjoyed a nice breakfast in the hotel restaurant. From there, we headed out to Wembley Stadium to see our Falcons take on the Jacksonville Jaguars! This is actually what started the whole idea for this trip. When we realized the Falcons would be playing in London at the end of Fall Break, we thought "now that sounds like a good idea." How cool to get to go to such an iconic stadium to watch your team play?!

The Jag's mascot bungeed in from the ceiling right in front of us!
We had fantastic seats for this game.

Well, it wasn't the outcome we wanted as the Falcons lost 23-7, but it sure was a fun experience. Tom Grennan put on a great halftime show. I'm so glad we did this, and I'm even glad we stood in two really long souvenir lines so I could get my cute London Falcons shirt (thanks for your patience fam!).

We left the stadium and ended up back in the Covenant Garden area to grab a little dinner. Lucky us to make it back to Mooboo bubble tea and Knoops hot chocolate one last time!

After this last treat, it was time to head on back to the hotel and start packing up all our items. We had quite a few souvenirs that we needed to fit in somewhere!
Eventually, we got it all together and headed to bed. We woke up early to start the journey back home. We took a taxi from the airport to Paddington Station where we then got on the Heathrow Express back out to the airport. We made our flight and settled in for the ride home. It was a full day ride, so there was a lot of reading, movies, podcasts, and music to enjoy. We realized we had averaged about 18K-19K steps per day which is right about 6 miles. We were absolutely exhausted, but in the best possible way. We had to get right back to work and school the next day; that made for a long week. Even still, I wouldn't have changed one thing about this trip. It was absolutely wonderful. I am so very thankful for a family that loves to travel and have adventures together!

London Part 3

Friday was filled with new experiences for all of us. First, we took a taxi out to Richmond. Ryan and I are big fans of the show Ted Lasso, so we had a lot of fun walking around and seeing some of the famous scenery shots from this show.

Biscuits with the Boss!

After we had our fill of Lasso (thanks for obliging us, girls!), we went to a shop called Knoop's. We had seen it on Insta and knew we had to try it. It's a whole shop dedicated to chocolate drinks. Look at how many different types of hot chocolate they have here!
Lily opted for a white chocolate milkshake, but the other three of us tried hot chocolate. Mia went with the 34% milk (cocoa and caramel notes), Ryan had the 39% milk (nougat, vanilla, and almond notes), and I went with the 65% dark (floral, citrus, and vanilla notes). We had to try the homemade marshmallows too. This did not disappoint! We all enjoyed. We took our treats down by the riverside to enjoy the day a bit. We were thankful for another beautiful day.

Soon we decided to keep going on our own little walking tour, and we came upon the remaining areas of the palace where Anne of Cleves lived after divorcing Henry VIII. While I wouldn't want her life, it was fun to imagine what living here would be like.

We had been here a few hours and decided to head back in to London by tube, so we walked on over to the train station passing by these beautiful theater and library buildings along the way.
We wanted to try the famed Burough Market for lunch. We knew it would be crowded, but we were not expecting this at all.
Hard pass for us. We walked across the street where we found Salt Yard. It was a fantastic and authentic Spanish tapas restaurant. There were so many delicious things. We were all pretty hungry, so we ordered plenty to share. This picture only shows some of the items, but we ordered: jamon iberico (large serving because it's our absolute favorite), croquetas, Isle of Wight tomato on sourdough with avocado, Burrato with Spanish peaches, and the grilled flatbread. This was easily one of the best meals of the trip. So delicious.
We did stop back in the Market for dessert on our way out though. Ryan, Lily, and Mia picked up a few German sourdough pretzels while I stopped for a French pistachio cronut. Yep, they were good too.
We enjoyed these desserts outside on the patio of the British Library. This is one of Ryan and mine's favorite places to visit. There are so many cool things to see here! Of course, it's very difficult to take pictures, but we got a few such as these of The Beatles' original lyrics to "In My Life" and King Henry VIII's Bible. We also saw things like the Tynedale Bible, DaVinci's sketches, and the original Magna Carta. It's a little mind blowing to actually see these!
After the British Library, it was time for another adventure. We took the tube out to Watford Junction and then boarded a bus over to the Warner Brothers Studio where they filmed Harry Potter. It was really cool to see the actual studios where all 8 films were made; they had so many great authentic props here as well. We took so many pictures...like hundreds. I've posted some of my favorites here, but it feels like it only touches the surface. I'm not even going to try adding descriptions to all of them. Just know this was such a fabulous experience!

We were completely wiped out by the time this was over. We had to wait awhile on a bus to pick us up and take us back to the train station. We finally made it back to the hotel. I think this was the third night in a row we were coming back in close to midnight. 100% worth it!
